Did You Know? Inman Square is named for Ralph Inman, a successful 18th-century merchant and prominent Tory known for his extravagant lifestyle. He was one also one of the few Tories whose property was returned to them after the Revolution.

Inman Square itself dates back to 1809 when Cambridge St was laid out (intersecting Hampshire St), financed by Andrew Craigie, who was responsible for much of East Cambridge’s development and also known for serving as the first Apothecary General of the Continental Army during the Revolution.
