Neighborhood Spotlight: Inman Square

DID YOU KNOW?

Did You Know? Inman Square is named for Ralph Inman, a successful 18th-century merchant and prominent Tory known for his extravagant lifestyle. He was one also one of the few Tories whose property was returned to them after the Revolution.

Did You Know? Inman Square itself dates back to 1809 when Cambridge St was laid out (intersecting Hampshire St), financed by Andrew Craigie, who was responsible for much of East Cambridge’s development and also known for serving as the first Apothecary General of the Continental Army during the Revolution.

Did You Know? Legal Sea Foods was first established here in 1950 as a fish market and take-out business.

FOOD & DRINK

Although Inman Square might be small in size, it still has a diverse selection of fantastic places to grab a bite or a drink. Below are some of our favorites:

  • Oleana provides award-winning farm-to-table Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine.

  • S&S (affectionally referred to as Yes&Yes by some locals) is a classic traditional kosher-style deli and restaurant, in business since 1919.

  • Dali is one of the area’s first Spanish tapas restaurants, just as popular today as it was when it first opened 30 years ago.

  • Puritan & Co provides modern and traditional New England style cuisine.

  • Moona (pictured above) is an award-winning Eastern Mediterranean Mezze restaurant and bar.

  • BISq is short for ‘Bergamot Inman Square’, serving progressive American cuisine, known for their fried chicken, award-winning wine list, and Whole Animal Fests — yes you can order an entire pig, or just a fish if that’s (literally) overkill.

REAL ESTATE

In 2019, Inman Square saw a total of 67 home sales, with a median home sale price of $712,000. The median home price has jumped up nearly 29% in just 5 short years!
