Happy Juneteenth!
This is Massachusetts' first year recognizing Juneteenth as a state holiday, though many communities around Boston have been celebrating for decades!
Juneteenth commemorates the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when General Gordon Granger of the Union Army told formerly enslaved people in Galveston they were free. The day is a celebration of Black liberation and joy -- and we have a few ways to honor and celebrate! Read below -- #HappyJuneteeth

Summer of Soul | Juneteenth
The Museum of Fine Arts will be hosting a free outdoor screening of Summer of Soul -- a stunning unearthed treasure destined to become a pillar of American music and African American history by legendary musician Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. The movie begins at 8pm and you can pre-order “Rox Box” dinner from #RoxburyRestaurantWeek.
Juneteenth Paint Party | Juneteenth
Dorchester Art Project aka DAP will be celebrating Black freedom and joy with a paint party this Saturday from 3:30-6:00pm. Support a local nonprofit org and learn the true meaning of Juneteenth at their studio on Dot Ave.
