When and Where to Enjoy Fall Foliage in Boston

Happy Fall

It’s officially FALL 🍂 and if you’re like us, you’re eager to get in some leaf-peeping this season. There are numerous places around Boston that offer up the perfect autumn backdrop -- whether you’re looking for a stroll, hike or place to enjoy a beverage.

Check out the list and let us know where you’re headed. Peak foliage only lasts a few weeks, so have a look at our foliage map below to help you plan accordingly.

Post Office Sq.

If you’re the “outdoorsy type” -- you know, the one who prefers drinking wine on patios -- then this might be the spot for you. Post Office Square is a beautiful park situated at the center of Boston’s Financial District. Grab a drink from the local ‘Sip Cafe’ and enjoy the fall scenery on the patio, park bench or lawn (with provided lawn cushions.)

Charlestown

Charlestown’s gaslight district is known for its charming brick roads, gas lamps and history (read: Paul Revere), making it the perfect setting for an autumn stroll. Visit the Bunker Hill monument, shop at Place & Gather, and wrap up the day on the patio at Brewer’s Fork.

Back Bay Fens

This gem may be overshadowed by THE Fenway Park, but it’s definitely worth a visit. The Fens is a lush park along Muddy River lined with trees and nature and home to the beautiful Kelleher Rose Garden. It’s a wonderful place to take an easy walk and catch up with a friend.

Arnold Arboretum

If you’re like us and can’t resist a burst of color at peak foliage, you have to experience Arnold Arboretum in the fall. This arboretum is a magnificent museum of trees located on a 281-acre reserve in Jamaica Plain. Bring a camera, because this place will not disappoint.

Blue Hills Reservation

Obviously we can’t finish this list without recommending this amazing hiking spot just a <30 minute drive south of the city. For a beautiful, fall-tastic view of the Boston skyline, head to Great Blue Hill. Pro tip: pack a pumpkin cider in your backpack to enjoy half way, or at the end of, your trip.
